Needs lots of room and plant in an area where roots will not disrupt hardscape. Makes a dense shade tree if the bottom limbs are pruned up.
Native to South Africa, this semi deciduous tree has showy orange flowers in early spring. In coastal areas it can hold its leaves during a mild winter. Very fast growing, and needs plenty of space. This tree can reach 65' tall and as wide if allowed free reign. Light gray trunks and limbs with spines. Needs frequent pruning to keep the tree a manageable size. Limbs are brittle and can break easily.

Sandy loam but but will tolerate most soil types.
